FUTURE SWASHBUCKLER

FUTURE SWASHBUCKLER is a heart-warming action game developed by Zenith Unbound that combines futuristic elements with intense swordplay. Players take on the role of a knight working in a futuristic city and engage in daily battles, switching between the two characters to maximize their combat effectiveness. The game’s unique mechanics include a strict grading system in which players must achieve a grade of B or higher in order to keep their job and progress through the story. The game loop lasts five days, each consisting of normal fights followed by a boss fight. Players begin each stage by choosing one of ten cards that change various attributes of both the player and enemies. Strategically switching characters is crucial, as the character with the blue border receives a 1,5x attack boost.

The battlefield is littered with power-ups and experience points that players can collect to improve their stats. As players progress, they can upgrade their swords using random rarities and valuables, adding depth to the combat system. The game has a permadeath feature where, if unsuccessful, the player starts the game from the very beginning, saving only sword upgrades. Featuring challenging gameplay and a unique scoring system, FUTURE SWASHBUCKLER offers a new take on the soul genre, although it is worth noting that the game is intended for use with an XBOX controller only.
