Hell is Us

Hell is Us is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Rogue Factor that takes players into a war-torn country beset by both civil conflict and supernatural horrors. The game centers on exploration of a semi-open world where mysterious creatures called chimeras roam freely, impervious to conventional weapons and born from an inexplicable catastrophe. Combat is carried out using melee weapons — swords, spears, and axes specifically forged to combat these supernatural foes while a companion drone aids in both exploration and survival. Hell is Us’s defining feature is its navigation system, which deliberately lacks maps, compasses, and quest markers, forcing players to rely on environmental narration and personal instincts to find their way.

The game’s level design uses innovative writing techniques to guide exploration naturally, making each discovery feel truly personal rather than following predetermined paths. Players must learn enemy attack patterns and the strategic use of drones to survive encounters with a variety of chimera threats scattered across the hostile landscape. According to creative director Jonathan Jacques-Bellete, the game explores the cyclical nature of human violence driven by emotion and passion, weaving this philosophical core into both the narrative and the supernatural elements that surround the world. The combination of methodical combat, instinct-driven exploration, and atmospheric storytelling creates a unique adventure experience focused on personal discovery and survival in a world where ancient weapons meet modern conflicts.
