BLACK SOULS immerses you in a gameplay that begins with the awakening of nameless undead in the Lost Empire, a kingdom forever shrouded in thick fog. This all-pervading haze distorts the essence of humanity, transforming people into monstrous beasts and plunging the land into a state of despair. Endless war defines this land, which has become a battleground for clashing ambitions. Heroes came here in search of glory, and courtesans dreamed of balls, but they all disappeared into oppressive obscurity.
The open-ended structure of the BLACK SOULS title encourages free exploration of dark territories. Moving through this world, the player wonders what he will see and what he will be able to gain. This land is a graveyard of aspirations, the final resting place of treasure hunters and warriors. Traveling through the locations carries the constant threat of encountering one of many dark destinies, serving as a harsh reminder of the nature of the kingdom.
Survival in this game begins with choosing a class, which determines the initial abilities for navigating the hostile environment. Encounters with inhabitants are implemented using the Symbol Encounter system, making conflicts with the transformed population visible before the start of combat. Treasures hidden in secret gardens encourage careful exploration of the withering landscape. The chosen path and the final ending depend on the actions of the nameless undead protagonist.
