In ENDLESS Legend 2, the aquatic world is periodically transformed by cataclysmic tidal shifts. These events cause the ocean to recede, exposing landmasses and altering the strategic landscape even as the campaign progresses. Players lead one of several distinct civilizations with unique mechanics to victory, vying for control of the planet. Key objectives include founding cities, expanding their territories by conquering districts, and harvesting resources. Factions also form armies for turn-based tactical battles and explore the changing landscape, uncovering the secrets at the world's core. Heroes are recruited to command these troops, and over time they gain new traits and equipment.
Choosing a faction in ENDLESS Legend 2 fundamentally changes the gameplay experience, as each has unique characteristics in trade, nation-building, and diplomacy. One civilization benefits from constant warfare, while another builds networks of influence through peaceful coexistence. Military doctrines also vary, from orbital weapons platforms to nests for rapid underground movement and ambushes. During battles, players can take direct control of individual units. The surrounding terrain, including chokepoints and elevated positions, is used to gain tactical advantage, along with faction-specific abilities that influence the outcome of the battle.
Victory in this strategy game can be achieved in several ways: through military conquest, technological advancement, or diplomatic dominance. Players complete missions and participate in events that change the course of the campaign and reveal the history of their people. The world is populated by minor nations: they can be defeated for resources or annexed to the empire, gaining access to their warriors and heroes. Exploring ancient ruins and other anomalies yields artifacts that provide tangible advantages. All these elements allow for a variety of approaches to achieving the ultimate goal establishing complete control over the planet.
