Kriophobia

Kriophobia is a psychological survival horror game in which a scientific expedition to the remote Zhokhov Island turns into a living nightmare after encountering anomalous magnetic fields. Instead of scientific discoveries, the team finds themselves deadly trapped in a long-forgotten Soviet military base hidden beneath the permafrost. The protagonist, a young geophysicist named Anna, must fight alone for survival in the icy corridors of the complex. She is haunted not only by grotesque creatures but also by surreal visions connected to her haunted past, as if the place itself is trying to pull her into its depths. Her search for a way out of this trap forces her to delve deeper into the mysteries of this cursed place.

The project returns to the genre's canons, offering exploration of locations from fixed camera angles, enhancing the cinematic quality of the experience. Kriophobia gameplay is built on solving intuitive yet challenging puzzles and surviving in the face of severe resource scarcity. Enemy encounters are extremely tense, and flight is often the best option rather than open confrontation. The deadly cold poses a distinct threat, forcing the player to constantly monitor the heroine's condition and seek out any sources of warmth. Every decision carries weight, and a misstep can lead to swift death.

The title's hallmark is its unique visual language, where deliberately rough, comic-book-inspired linework is combined with painterly environmental textures. This artistic approach creates a dark and oppressive atmosphere reminiscent of graphic novels from the 1980s and 1990s. The immersion into a world of icy loneliness and horror is heightened by a soundtrack with distinct Slavic motifs. Anna's every step is accompanied by unsettling sounds, revealing fragments of her distorted history and the dark secrets of the Soviet complex.
