Mask City Chapter Zero plunges you into the investigation of a series of murders that have shattered the tranquil atmosphere of Middleton. For years, the protagonist has defended his hometown from both ordinary criminals and individuals with superpowers. His routine is shattered after a robbery at a specific jewelry store by his longtime rival, which unwittingly leads him to the trail of the current killer. The story, written by Aaron Crash, places the character in circumstances far beyond his usual crime-fighting routine and brings him into contact with a variety of female companions.
Solving the case in the title will require forging alliances with colorful characters. The investigation involves a photographer with a secret, a detective with a difficult personality, and a former high school sweetheart who shows a new interest in the protagonist. However, the most important partner may turn out to be a ruthless thief he's been pursuing for years. The player's decisions directly influence dialogue and the development of events, determining the protagonist's relationships and progress toward solving the main mystery.
The gameplay alternates interactive investigations with dynamic scenes. The protagonist engages in physical confrontations with gangsters and supervillains, and each battle helps uncover new information. Gamers must follow the trail, interview witnesses, and gather evidence to identify the criminal. This game combines the structure of a detective thriller with the established canon of superhero stories.
