RUNNING TRAIN 走ル列車 invites you into the quiet, meditative world of Japanese train operation, where your only tasks are to depart on time, brake smoothly, and watch the countryside glide by. Developed and published by Novatetsu Games for release in 2026 and currently in Early Access, this casual indie simulation game strips away the complexity of hardcore train sims. You control a single commuter line with authentic Japanese electric multiple units. The controls are simplified, accelerate, decelerate, and ring the bell. There are no timetables to memorize or penalties for minor mistakes. The focus is on immersion and atmosphere, the sound of the crossing gates, the gentle sway of the carriage, and the changing seasons outside your window.
The latest version of the game introduces a dynamic weather system with rain, fog, and snow that affect visibility and braking distance. Simulation depth includes realistic acceleration curves and automatic train protection systems, but they are forgiving. Casual players can enable auto drive and simply enjoy the scenery. Indie charm shines through in the hand drawn 2D backgrounds and a lo fi soundtrack. Early Access means the developer is actively adding new lines, trains, and passenger behaviors based on community feedback. Before you buy, I would like to address a few important points:I have added an additional note to the minimum requirements. Some testers reported crashes on 8GB RAM systems during the loading screen. I highly recommend adding 1–2GB of virtual RAM (paging file size) to act as headroom while the game loads the maps. I apologize for the inconvenience.If you notice the gameplay is unusually quiet, it is because the menu music, in-car announcements, and departure melodies are still being implemented. Unfortunately, I missed the deadline for these, and I sincerely apologize. They should be finished by mid-June, so please bear with me!There is currently no official tutorial menu. For now, the best way to learn is to enable the In-Game Instruction HUD and practice in Free Mode. The gameplay itself is quite straightforward, so you should be able to pick it up quickly.If you\'re using master controller, please note that it can only be used while driving. For menu navigation, please use your keyboard or mouse instead. Additionally, custom keybinding for the mascon is currently unavailable.
