Serious Sam Shatterverse

In Serious Sam Shatterverse, the developers abandoned the traditional structure in favor of a roguelike concept with procedurally generated runs for 1-5 players. According to the story, the actions of Uber-Mental have destroyed the boundaries between dimensions, forcing alternate versions of Sam Stone to unite as the Serious Program. Heroes from different worlds must navigate shifting universes, wield a hybrid of classic and new weapons, collect mods, and defeat Mental's five warlords.

The cartoonish visual style and emphasis on perk progression have drawn criticism from long-time fans, who compared the new game to modern service games. The developers are actively using player feedback to refine the balance. In the latest build, each version of Sam has unique features, including Cartoon Sam, who moves slower due to his short legs but has a faster dash recharge and produces larger explosions, and Retro Sam, whose decoys delay detonation for 1 second to attract enemies. The bestiary and bosses have undergone significant changes based on feedback from players in the previous round.

Clears have become more aggressive and harder to avoid, and the accuracy of Arachnoids when attacking in groups has been reduced to address imbalances. The Lava Golem boss, which was destroying an abnormal number of players in the previous test, received reworked health, destructible armor pieces, and clear visual attack cues, as well as complete immunity to fire and its lesser forms.

Weapon rules and level structure have also undergone a major overhaul. The M1A2 Thompson submachine gun has received an increased firing range, and the weapon stat system has been stripped of random base stats for items of the same rank. The team shortened the length of several drawn-out maps, smoothed out sudden difficulty spikes, fixed issues with portal background music, and eliminated a bug where SBC Cannon cannonballs would bounce off Headless Rocketeer missiles instead of destroying them.
