RAD

RAD is a game for PC created by Double Fine Productions, the studio responsible for games such as Psychonauts, Brutal Legends and Grim Fandango. This time, the creators brought us a bagel, where the game world suffered from Armageddon. In RAD, we play the role of a teenager who is tired of living in a world devastated by two Armageddons. He decides to delve into Ugora — a radioactive wasteland filled with dangerous mutants, because it hides a secret and a way to save humanity. However, he will pay a high price for this, because radioactive vapors in the air will affect his skills, which make him an increasingly less human and more powerful mutant. Will he save humanity or die in poisonous fumes, like so many others? His fate is in our hands.

About This Game

RAD is a three-dimensional bagel observed from an isometric view. Our task is to penetrate deeply into the devastated lands in order to find a way to save humanity. To this end, we explore various places — swamps, deserts and forests — struggling with the consequences of a terrible disaster. In addition to destroyed buildings or altered vegetation, on our way we meet many creatures infected with radioactive gases. As a result of their actions, they turned into mutants and gained strength, skills and the thirst for murder, so there would be no struggle without them.

The hero we control uses only one weapon — a baseball bat. But the gameplay is more than just waving a bat. As our character moves from one place to another, he or she gains more and more powerful skills that he or she can use in battle. However, there is nothing free, because every power is the result of a mutation associated with environmental pollution. The further we go, the more we turn ourselves into what we kill.

If we die, the game will end there, and in our next expedition we will play for another character. However, after each unsuccessful approach, we can make the next character’s game a bit easier. This is due to the fact that bat companions accompany us at every step, and we can improve them so that they can bring us various advantages.

An additional feature that our character can boast of is the fact that those places that we have already passed are overgrown with flowers. Thanks to this procedure, research not only becomes more enjoyable, but the green stripes serve as a guide and tell us that we were already here.
