Root Letter Last Answer is a visual adventure game with gameplay similar to TV shows such as Danganronpa or Ace Attorney. The game was developed by Kadokawa Games, which is part of the huge publishing conglomerate Kadokawa, which produces films, animations, music, games, etc. Root Letter Last Answer is an extended remake of the original Root Letter, released in 2016 on PC, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, with a circulation of more than 400,000 copies worldwide. The main character travels to Matsue in Shimane Prefecture, Japan, trying to find friends from the school mentioned by Fumino, in the hope that they will take him to the girl. On the spot, he is surprised to find that a friend is said to have died in a fire in a family house ten years before she first contacted him. Depending on the decisions made, we can unblock one of the five endings, decisively differently solving the main plot, which is further expanded in the epilogues.

The gameplay in Root Letter Last Answer resembles a classic two-dimensional visual novel, but it also allows more interaction and influence on the course of the plot than usual such as the Danganronpa series. The story is divided into chapters, each of which is associated with one of the letters we received. Players can select various locations in Matsue and its surroundings, asking questions to the people mentioned by Fumino and those associated with her disappearance or death. At various times, we are asked to make a decision that affects the course of the dialogs. When we find that a person is hiding important facts from us, we are transferred to a mini-game where we use the arguments, clues and evidence found during the investigation.
