The Town of Light

The Town of Light is a psychological thriller realized in the form of a first-person exploration game in which the developers decided to tell the dark story of a real-life place. The game is the debut work of a small independent studio Lka.it from Italy. The game begins in our time, and the action takes place in an abandoned refuge in the Italian town of Volterra. This institution has existed since the 19th century and was one of the most famous of its kind on the Italian peninsula the number of its patients reached several thousand, but it was closed in 1978 along with many other institutions in Italy when the Law changed. The creators of The Town of Light for PC, PS4 and more decided to present the history of this place with a special emphasis on the dramatic experiences of its inhabitants, who for years treated the staff of the institution like animals.

About This Game

To this end, the developer has carefully recreated the shelter in Volterra both inside and outside and collected a wealth of research material about it, including stories from people associated with the history of the property. The player learns about the abandoned resort and its past in the footsteps of 16-year-old Rene, a fictional character who comes to Volterra in search of his lost memories. The girl suffers from schizophrenia, so the adventure is hampered by the symptoms associated with her condition, as well as her fears and other emotions. Wandering around the orphanage, we are guided by the voice of the heroine; which does not mean that the game is linear the story has an open structure and can develop in different ways. Town of Light is powered by the Unity Engine and has a very beautiful artwork, where the most impressive is the detailed, carefully mapped playground. It’s also worth mentioning that the game has been adapted to support the Oculus Rift VR headsets.
