Growing Up

Growing Up — is a visual novel life simulator. The game was developed by the Polish studio Vile Monarch, known also for projects Oh Sir and Weedcraft Inc. Growing Up takes us on a journey to the 90s of the twentieth century. During the game, we play the role of a character, whom we accompany in all important periods of his life from early childhood, through adolescence, to maturity and fatherhood. The gameplay in Growing Up starts with choosing the gender of our character and assigning a name. Then we have no choice but to throw ourselves into the maelstrom of events on the way to the adult life of the protagonist.

About This Game

During the game, we explore the city and discover interesting places for ourselves, acquire new skills, make friends and enter into close relationships with selected people, as well as climb the levels of education attending schools, participating in additional classes or passing various exams and careers. We can also try to get the child to start the cycle again. The choices we make shape both the personality of our character and the options available to him. This means that every person we play can have a completely different life and therefore face different challenges and face different characters. All this is presented mainly in the form of static boards, which show the places and situations in which our character is at the moment. They are complemented by an interactive map of the city, on which we select the places we would like to visit, the need to make plans for the next days and various mini-games accompanying the selected events.

The game features over 1000 lines of dialogue for each of the 19 characters whose lives run parallel to ours. It depends only on us how well we get to know them and how close our relationship with them will be. You have to get over 200 skills and 42 unique professions. We can choose a career as an astronaut, rock star, or head of a development studio, or even choose politics and try to compete for the presidency of the United States. In the city, we spend time in 30 different places. In addition to all this, we have a wide selection of cosmetic items, clothes and hairstyles, thanks to which we can customize the look of our characters. Growing Up has colorful cartoon graphics in an eye-pleasing style reminiscent of Weedcraft Inc., an earlier project by Vile Monarch.
