v0.1.18: Multiple Outposts & Building Overhaul

v0.1.18 Сборка 26457679

NEW FEATURES

Multiple Outposts

You no longer have to live with wherever you placed your first bonfire. Instead of moving it, you can now build extra outposts as you progress.

  • Build up to three outposts:

  • First outpost: free, as before.

  • Second outpost: requires player level 10, costs 40 logs, 20 stone and 10 metal.

  • Third outpost: requires player level 20, costs 80 logs, 40 stone and 20 iron.

Placement rules: extra outposts must be at least 150 m away from each other and from uncleared enemy outposts and headquarters. Clearing an enemy site lets you build near it.

Construction sites: extra bonfires are built like other structures, by delivering materials. You can cancel an unfinished site, but a finished outpost can’t be removed.

Name your outposts: give each outpost its own name. It’s saved and shown on the map and in notifications.

Ally NPCs

  • Assign NPCs to an outpost: each NPC now belongs to one outpost, where they work, guard, deposit items and sleep. You can change this from the NPC panel, and the choice is saved.

  • Walking between outposts: reassigned NPCs walk to their new home instead of teleporting. Their route avoids uncleared enemy outposts and headquarters and takes the path with the fewest zombies. If there’s no safe route, they stay where they are and you get a notification.

  • Retreat to the nearest outpost: injured workers now run to the closest outpost instead of always heading for the main one.

Separate Storage

  • Each outpost has its own storage. Chests, workstations and build sites belong to their nearest outpost. NPC work, cooking, crafting and building only use materials stored at that outpost, so moving supplies between outposts is now part of the game. Items you carry can still be used anywhere.

  • Workstations only show the materials available at their own outpost.

  • The NPC production filter only shows recipes their own outpost can make.

Raids & the World

  • Raids can hit any outpost. Each raid picks a random outpost, and the notification tells you which one. Attackers stay around that outpost instead of running across the map to you.

  • Only the attacked outpost reacts. NPCs at your other outposts keep sleeping.

  • Every outpost appears on the map and minimap by name, and the world map shows extra outposts with a ring around their area.

  • Without a bed, you now respawn at the outpost nearest to where you died.

  • Decorations boost morale only at their own outpost, and outpost music plays at all of them.

Rebuilt Residential Panel
  • Three-column layout: your outposts on the left, the selected outpost’s residents in the middle, and its storage and stations on the right. Companions have their own “With You” group.

  • Live NPC status: health, hunger, thirst, energy and morale are shown as animated bars that change color as they drop. NPCs in trouble move to the top of the list with a red marker.

  • Quick management: filter residents by All, Workers or Guards, and move an NPC to another outpost with one click.

  • Better storage view: see all of an outpost’s items in one searchable grid, or browse chest by chest with collapsible containers. Hover over an item to see its details.

  • Outpost alerts: the outpost list warns you when an outpost is under attack or when its residents need help.

Building System Overhaul
  • Flat roofs work like floors: you can now place anything that goes on a floor on top of a flat wooden roof: side floors, walls, columns, stairs and furniture.

  • Snapping: pieces now prefer to snap to the piece you’re aiming at, and snapping is smoother.

  • Walls: walls can be stacked on top of each other. A wall placed between two columns adjusts to fit the distance between them.

  • Roofs: flat roofs align to the floor grid and to the height of neighboring roofs. Sloped roofs can be attached to the edge of a flat roof.

  • Beams & columns: you can place beams under the edges of flat roofs, and columns that reach down to the ground under their corners.

  • Stairs: stairs fill a full floor tile and match the floor height no matter what order you build in. The top of a staircase can’t be covered with a roof.

  • New warnings: if a piece can’t be placed or demolished, a message explains why.

NPCs on Upper Floors & Stairs
  • NPCs can now walk on upper floors you’ve built and use stairs. This works at every outpost and in every structure outside your outposts.

Vehicle Trunks
  • Every vehicle now has its own storage, opened with the interact key and shown with an on-screen hint. Capacity depends on the vehicle:

Vehicle

Trunk slots

Buggy

2

Usual Car

6

Armored

8

Truck

12

Army

18

Pick Up Items Without Looking Down
  • When you aren’t aiming at anything else, pressing interact now picks up the best visible item within 2.5 m. Chests, doors, NPCs and vehicles you’re looking at still come first, and items behind walls can’t be picked up.

NVIDIA DLSS & Upscaling
  • NVIDIA DLSS support has been added. With new settings, DLSS is on in Balanced mode by default.

  • On systems that don’t support DLSS, the game switches to FSR automatically. Resetting to defaults does the same check.

  • The video settings also have an upscaling option: Off, FSR or STP, with Quality, Balanced and Performance levels. Upscaling renders at a lower resolution and scales the image up for better performance.

Random Spawn Point
  • You now start in a different place in every new game.

  • Safe start: your spawn point is far from zombie areas and enemy outposts, and at least 250 m from the edge of the map. No zombies spawn around your starting area.

On-Screen Keyboard for Gamepad
  • Pressing A on a text box opens Steam’s keyboard when available, or the game’s own keyboard if not. It supports many languages, including Turkish and Cyrillic layouts.

CHANGES & IMPROVEMENTS

Ally NPCs
  • Workers retreat when in danger: a worker who’s under attack and drops below 40% health stops working, runs to the outpost, heals to full and goes back to the same job.

  • Workers fight back better: idle patrol no longer keeps moving a worker during a fight, which could stop them from reaching and attacking the zombie.

  • Workers avoid danger when picking targets: while looting, they skip items and resources near uncleared enemy outposts (90 m), headquarters (130 m) and zombies.

  • Healing in combat for every role: Workers, Companions and Guards now use healing items from their bags during fights once their health drops below 60%.

  • Food and medicine: a hungry, thirsty or injured NPC first uses a suitable item from their own inventory. If they don’t have one, workers and guards go to the nearest chest. Companions only use their own inventory.

  • “Couldn’t find” notification: if an NPC can’t find a suitable item anywhere, you get a notification. It closes after 20 seconds, or earlier if the item is found.

  • New notifications: you’re notified when a worker retreats, and again when they’ve healed and are going back to work, with the NPC’s name and job. Available in all 15 languages.

Loot Balance
  • Zombie areas are now worth looting. Containers in zombie areas can give a bonus rare item based on how dangerous the area is, at half the normal quantity:

Area

Bonus chance

Easy

5%

Normal

12%

Hard

25%, from a better item table

  • The Hard table includes iron, gunpowder, ammo, grenades, medical items, Runestones and armor. Weapons are still only found in outpost rewards, so outposts remain the best place to find them.

Quality of Life
  • Sleep from 18:00: you can now go to bed from 18:00 instead of waiting until 21:00.

  • Easier to find yourself on the map: the player marker on the map and minimap is now ice blue instead of white.

  • Typing no longer triggers game keys: game and menu keys are blocked while you type in any text box, so letters like E no longer switch tabs.

  • Clearer renaming: the Rename button turns into Save while you’re editing a name.

  • Armor no longer stacks: Leather Armor, Leather Helmet, Leather Knee and Knee Metal are now single items. Existing stacks in old saves are split automatically.

  • Safer saving: quitting the game now shows a new save notice and tells you if the save failed. Saves also keep a .bak backup and retry on failure, which helps protect your progress.

Intro
  • Even if a door is open, you can’t leave before the right moment. Zombies and bullets can still pass through.

Performance
  • Render settings have been optimized.

  • PC shadow settings have been improved.

BUG FIXES

  • Explosive and Medical Workbenches could disappear after loading a save, because they were missing from the world save. They’re now saved like every other bench.

  • Fixed Take All sometimes taking only one of two single items. If something can’t be taken, a notice now tells you.

  • Food on the hotbar and in the inventory now stays in sync, and ovens and cooking pots can use ingredients you can actually reach.

  • Grenades and Molotovs now damage deer and wild boars. Before, animals took no damage from explosions or Molotov fire.

  • Because of a bug, you always spawned at the same point. Your spawn point is now random.

  • Weapons and tools dropped from your inventory now keep their durability and attachments. Before, they were reset when you picked them back up.

  • Fixed collision in caves and outposts.

  • Fixed stacked columns staying red.

  • Collision checks for items and stairs now use their real size.

  • Guards loaded from a save could be left out of raid targeting and bed assignment. They’re now included correctly.

  • Unfinished paid bonfires no longer complete for free when you load a save.

Thanks for playing and for all your reports. If you run into anything, please include the version number from the bottom-right corner.

v0.1.17: Steam Achievements & Ally Hunger Update

v0.1.17 Сборка 26431777

NEW FEATURES

Steam Achievements & Stats
  • Steam achievements and stats have been added to the game.

Ally Food Box
  • Ally NPCs now have a food box with a timer, just like the player, instead of a hunger percentage.

  • It appears in the NPC panel, and the residential panel shows the time left.

  • Ally food boxes are saved with your game.

CHANGES & IMPROVEMENTS

Food & Hunger
  • Longer-lasting food: food now lasts longer, so you need to eat less often.

Food

Duration

Raw meat & raw fish

2 min

Chilli, mushrooms, bananas

4 min

Bread

6 min

Cooked meat & cooked fish

10 min

Hunter’s Platter

20 min

  • Same timers for everyone: allies and players now use the same food durations.

  • Hungry when the box is empty: an ally with an empty food box now counts as hungry and looks for food right away, starting with their own inventory. Workers also check nearby chests.

  • Hunger notifications: you get a notification when an ally is hungry and can’t find food. Workers who can still get food from a chest won’t trigger it, unless they fail to reach the chest twice.

  • Raw food: allies avoid raw food until they’ve been hungry for a long time, so they don’t keep poisoning themselves.

  • Hunger affects healing: allies with an empty food box don’t regenerate health until they eat.

Skill Tree
  • Tiered unlocking: the next section of a skill tree only unlocks once every “Gate” skill in the previous tier is unlocked and maxed out. These rules apply to each skill tree separately.

World
  • Caves have been improved.

Camera & Interaction
  • Camera: the camera no longer goes inside walls and roofs. It now keeps a small gap from surfaces, which prevents visual glitches and see-through objects.

  • Interaction through walls: you can no longer interact through a wall with objects like chests that sit behind a thin wall or poke out around a corner. If you can’t see it, you can’t interact with it.

  • Torch & left hand: the torch is also held in the left hand, so you can’t equip it while holding a fishing rod or a bow. An equipped torch is hidden in the meantime and comes back when you put the item away.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed an invisible object on the map.

  • Fixed skill node colors sometimes staying wrong.

  • Fixed a UI issue with the Stone Oven.

Update v0.1.16: Full Controller Support, Ally Jobs & More Loot

v0.1.16 Сборка 26426202

NEW FEATURES

Full Controller Support
  • Walkers now has full controller support.

  • Aim assist: a new aim assist setting with Off, Low and High options. It only works while aiming with a gamepad and doesn’t change bullets or hit detection.

  • High was made stronger after testing: it has a larger assist area, a stronger pull, snaps to the target when you start aiming, and keeps tracking even without stick input.

Ally Guard Duty
  • Idle workers now switch to Guard duty. After 15 seconds with no task, a worker goes on guard and you get a notification.

Ally Rest Bonus
  • Allies now get the bonfire Rested effect inside the outpost, which regenerates their health.

Autosave Interval
  • The Settings menu now has an Autosave Interval option, including an Off choice. Before, the game ignored this setting and the option wasn’t even visible in the menu.

CHANGES & IMPROVEMENTS

Ally NPC Work System

I went through the whole ally job system and fixed the problems I found.

  • Craft and Cook order buttons are back. They were missing, so you couldn’t give these tasks at all, which is why NPCs were standing idle.

  • Production orders now work like real tasks: you enter an amount, the NPC makes it, puts it in storage and moves on.

  • Order panels only show what you’ve built. Workbench items appear once that workbench exists, and cooking shows the dishes of the stations you’ve built.

  • NPCs can cook more dishes. They now use the full recipe list instead of only cooked meat, and they no longer carry firewood around when ingredients are missing.

  • Farming has been removed from the job list until the feature is in the game.

NPC Notifications
  • Clearer warnings: “Needed” only appears when the NPC really can’t do the job. Otherwise you get a hint, like “can chop Wood faster with an axe.”

  • Notices now name the resource and the action, so it’s clear what a tool is for.

  • Partial production is reported, for example: “made 2/3 Metal Axe, the rest could not be made: not enough resources.”

  • New reasons are shown for idle NPCs: no task given, or a full inventory. Missing cooking ingredients are listed too.

  • Repeated crafts now update one notice instead of stacking.

  • Level-up notices stay on screen longer and show the NPC’s name.

UI Improvements
  • Redesigned NPC order panel:

  • Cleaner rows, with ordered items highlighted.

  • Animated amount changes with click sounds.

  • Hold + or − to change amounts faster.

  • Row hover effects, entrance animations, progress bars and a short hint.

  • The ∞ symbol now only appears when gathering really is unlimited.

Redesigned notifications: colors and icons by type (success, warning, info, danger, level up), a bold NPC name, a timer bar, and click to dismiss.

The icon in empty food slots is now centered.

Loot Balance
  • More loot across the map. Every loot setting has gone up. Normal now gives about 25% more, with fewer empty containers and better zombie and enemy drops.

  • Enemy outposts and headquarters are worth raiding. Their containers are empty less often and can hold valuable extras, and headquarters pay the best. Enemy bodies there can also drop valuable materials.

Performance
  • Less freezing during autosave. Saving now runs across several frames instead of all at once, and does fewer expensive scene searches.

  • Less wasted work, with no change to visuals:

  • Snow trace cameras stop rendering when the ground is dry.

  • Release builds no longer write info logs to disk.

  • The update system no longer rebuilds its whole list whenever an object turns on or off.

  • Zombies out of view switch off gradually instead of in large groups.

  • Zombie target searches, interaction raycasts and animation sync are cheaper.

  • Picking a terrain tree now only checks nearby trees instead of every tree on the map.

BUG FIXES

Backpack & Inventory

  • Swapping backpacks no longer deletes items. Replacing an equipped backpack directly with another one could lose everything inside the old one.

  • Fixed an item duplication bug. Crafting, building, cooking and refuelling now only spend what’s actually in the equipped backpack, and removing items works correctly across split stacks.

  • Backpack weight and item counts now stay correct when you drop, store or pick up a full backpack.

Ally NPCs

  • Material counts in craft planning no longer mix up similar names like Metal and Metal Ore, and the queue limit is counted correctly.

  • Fixed NPCs getting stuck when:

  • depositing items and other jobs interrupted each other,

  • their path to storage was blocked,

  • a pickup animation was interrupted,

  • tables and trees stayed reserved by mistake,

  • gathered items couldn’t be deposited after loading a save.

Fixed the “build completed” wording, and the craft count now shows the order total.

Thanks again for all your reports. If you run into anything, please include the version number from the bottom-right corner.
