Ad Infinitum

Ad Infinitum is, first and foremost, a story about the horrors of war and its consequences. The plot centers on an unnamed protagonist, a young soldier who survived the First World War. But even at home he is haunted by memories, and the slightest little thing brings back painful memories. His damaged mind freely destroys his memories, and the poor man is forced to travel through surreal scenes full of violence and brutality. Moreover, he is being pursued by monsters that he cannot shoot at, and he can only escape from them by buying time. Will the former military man be able to escape from the madness that has engulfed him and maintain his sanity and life? The review is conducted in the first person.

The main character moves through the levels, like in a horror movie, collecting objects and weapons that will later help him solve puzzles. The developers have done a good job of recreating the early 20th century setting, giving the player access to authentic tools and weapons of the time. The final storyline is determined by the number of quests solved and tasks completed, and several alternative scenarios exist. The settings range from the trenches, city streets to country mansions, but all are heartfeltly authentic. Stealth is one of the main features of the game the main character often has to use the environment and ingenuity to hide from his pursuers.

The game’s deep plot is cleverly complemented by technical elements. The game was in development for at least six years, during which time the authors were able to bring their vision to perfection. The level designers then fleshed out the details, adding strange and sometimes fantastical landscapes that look like they were designed by a madman. It is spiced up with dark tones and subtle lighting. The soundtrack perfectly complements the surrounding madness and keeps the player on the edge of their seats throughout the game.
