Description

HumanitZ takes you to a scary post-apocalyptic environment infested with ravenous zombies. This survival action game offers a variety of gameplay options, designed for both solo and cooperative squads. Set in a desert landscape, heroes navigate a vast open world collecting vital resources, arming themselves to the teeth, and driving vehicles. In addition, players are given the opportunity to create their own fortified shelters, make basic necessities, and obtain food through hunting and fishing.

Taking inspiration from such classic zombie action films, HumanitZ strives for an authentic portrayal of survival in a world overrun by the undead. It emphasizes the importance of choice when even the smallest action can lead to serious consequences. The dynamic cycle of day and night, capricious weather conditions, treacherous natural obstacles all this affects the player’s experience. A variety of undead, each with their own characteristics, challenge the player at every turn. Some move sluggishly, making them relatively easy targets, while others run at alarming speed. Some zombies, notably, can use weapons or drive vehicles, which pose an increased threat. The inclusion of hostile human AI further raises the stakes, emphasizing the need for stealth, careful strategy, and teamwork to overcome the odds.

Key Features

  • Explore a vast, unforgiving world! From untamed wilderness to dense urban cities littered with drivable vehicles, the dynamic weather system will keep you on your toes.
  • Survive together! Grab a rifle and start foraging on your own or have someone watch your back in cooperative mode for up to four players!
  • Live off the land! Pick through the ruins of the old world and scavenge resources to survive. Or take to the hills, set up a farm, hunt game, and catch fish to try and avoid the shambling remnants of humanity.
  • Robust character customization! Design your chosen survivor with perks, stats, and a huge selection of firearms and other tools.
  • Craft and build for survival! Utilize an extensive crafting and building system for whatever is needed to survive, from gear to consumables. Then, build a safe house, fortify a base against the zeeks, or turn a burned-out house into a new place to live.
  • Defend against truly menacing zombies! Not all zeeks are slow and stupid. Adapt and improvise against numerous zeek variants or you’ll risk becoming zombie fodder. Looking for an even greater challenge? Try your hand at Permadeath Mode…if you dare.
  • Defy death! The apocalypse claims everyone, eventually. If not through a zombie’s maw, then through hunger, exposure, treacherous terrain, or other people. How long will you last?

HumanitZ 1.1 Major Update

Build 26054365

Welcome to the HumanitZ 1.1 Spooky Update, Survivors!

To begin, thank you to everyone who participated in the Experimental Branch of 1.1. Your feedback, suggestions and changes have far surpassed anything we imagined for this update and hope everyone will enjoy their first introduction to this next evolution.

New Saves are not required for our Spooky Update, you can just update to the current default version. For those who did participate in Experimental, please revert to the Default Branch going forward as Experimental will no longer function nor receive updates. It is highly encouraged for server owners to do a full wipe of their servers when updating to 1.1 in order to incorporate server-side changes and stability improvements which may conflict with current assets.

All Official Servers have been wiped for this update.

So, what can Survivors look forward to in this update?

New Additions

NPC Recruitment (Single Player and Hosted Multiplayer Only)

As we mentioned back on 4 February 2025, NPC recruitment coming to HumanitZ would only be for single and hosted local multiplayer. This decision was crafted with other players on servers taking the place of NPCs in mind. That being said, for those of you who feel a bit lonely, out in the world you will come across random NPCs who you may want to recruit to your base. They will be able to perform various actions such as following to assist you when on runs, conduct actions at the base, provide security, and you can send them out on tasks. Be warned! When recruiting, pay attention to the traits they bring along with them. Some will not reveal themselves until after a bit of time in the community or via a triggerpoint. Not everyone may be as friendly as they appear! Remember, recruiting NPCs is not mandatory to enjoy the game, just something extra.

Completion of the Radio Tower quest is needed to begin recruitment of NPCs. You will be able to create up to 2 additional outposts, which you can upgrade to allow more Survivors, and even exchange them between locations. They will communicate their needs, wants, and grievances, so it will be your responsibility to ensure morale of the community is high, less you incur catastrophic consequences!

New Mode: For those of you wanting a little more of a challenge, we have introduced Headshot Only Mode! In this mode, “zeeks can be stopped by removing the head or destroying the brain. I will repeat that: by removing the head or destroying the brain”. You can either select the default mode of play which is how we envision it to be, or you can select it as a setting either when setting up your session or turning it on in currently running saves for your own customizable experience. (This is also a server setting for server owners)

Player Turns Into a Zeek: Congrats, you died to a horde of zeeks or to the infection. Now you’ll have to find your former self to retrieve your belongings. This is dependent on your “on drop” settings. For example: if you have drop settings set to “Nothing”, your character zeek will still appear, but have nothing on it as your items will be retained on your person.

Walkie-Talkie: You can now converse with your teammates across the world of HumanitZ without having to utilize VoIP or outside applications. Once you find walkie talkies, set up your frequencies to match between your party/clanmates and you’ll be in instant contact; however, be careful what you say, someone may be monitoring your channel…

On the Horizon

Spooky Update will be here for a few weeks, we’ll capture any residual issues from the full release and begin work on the Winter Update. If you haven’t seen the ‘26 Road Map, this will include the following:

- Experimental Branch 1.2
- Overhauled Build System
- Holdable Shields
- Pick Up and Carry for base assets
- Animation Cancelling
- Winter Holiday Themed quests, gear and scenery
- Neverending cycle of Bug Fixes and Quality of Life additions
- Performance

After testing the current build system to prevent skybases using foundational support systems, we decided to not include it in this update as we are overhauling the build system entirely and it would not make sense to redo the work twice, so you can look forward to these changes being implemented for Experimental Branch 1.2.

Many people have been asking about the Dev Spoiler items and what is in the Ongoing Development sections of the ‘26 Road Map. We have not committed any of those items to a specific update, but they are being worked on in the background. So just keep your eyes peeled!

Thanks again for all the support survivors
Regards
HZ Team
