Shellshock

When developers try to combine deep simulation and real horror, they usually end up with something very slow and psychologically difficult. The new game Shellshock released by the Man the Barricades Ltd studio in 2026 is just such a project. It is a very dark adventure that does not rely on cheap tricks to scare the player. Here you will not find monsters that suddenly jump out of dark cabinets onto the screen every minute. Instead, the game very slowly immerses you in an extremely dense atmosphere of complete uncertainty and isolation from the outside world. You find yourself in a strange abandoned place and your main goal is simply to understand what exactly happened here and find at least some safe way out.

The gameplay is very much based on simulation and solving various spatial problems. You absolutely cannot just run through the level shooting in all directions because there are no weapons at all. Your only reliable tool for survival is your own mind. You will have to look very carefully at every corner of the dark room to look for hidden clues and carefully interact with various complex mechanisms. Each such puzzle requires you to have great patience and the ability to think very logically. You will run old rusty generators, select the correct digital combinations for the locks and try to fully restore the operation of the vital systems of this base.

The theme of horror here is revealed through very skillful work with sound effects and dynamic lighting. When you carefully walk through the empty cold corridors, each of your steps echoes very loudly, and strange shadows on the ragged walls constantly make you stop and listen anxiously. This unpleasant feeling of constant anxiety does not let you go for a single minute. The game understands very well that the unknown scares a person much more than the sight of any of the most terrible monsters. You just walk quietly with a small flashlight, reading old abandoned notes, and with each new document you find, the overall picture becomes more and more frightening.

If you really like smart games where you really have to think a lot and at the same time you like to feel a pleasant chill down your spine, then this release is definitely worth your free time. Shellshock is a project that was created with great attention to detail. The game will not push you forward at all, giving you the full opportunity to independently explore every corner of this terrible world. The developers have done everything possible to make your journey as atmospheric as possible and remain in your memories for a long time. The main thing is not to forget to look back more often, because no one knows what exactly can be hidden in the thick darkness.
