The Lord of the Rings War in the North Legacy Edition

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition is a cooperative action RPG developed and published by Aspyr Media. It tells a darker story set in Middle earth during the same period as the main Fellowship journey, focusing on the war in the northern regions while Frodo and Sam travel toward Mount Doom.

The main antagonist is Agandaur, a Black Numenorean and servant of Sauron who gathers a massive army in the ruins of Fornost. A new fellowship of three heroes must stop him before the North falls completely. The campaign visits familiar locations from the legendarium, including Rivendell, Lorien, the Lonely Mountain and Mirkwood.

Players choose between three characters with distinct combat styles. Eradan the ranger relies on stealth and precise shots, Andriel the lore keeper uses magic and healing, and Farin the dwarf turns melee into a crushing force. Each hero offers a different way to approach battles, and switching between them changes the flow of combat.

Character progression follows action RPG conventions. Abilities develop with experience, equipment changes with loot, and weapons with armor define the play style. The party grows stronger through the journey, preparing the heroes for harder fights ahead.

The game supports cooperative play for up to three participants. Friends can join the same fellowship and tackle the campaign together, with each player controlling one of the three heroes. Single player is also fully supported, with AI handling the remaining party members.

A special feature is the Great Eagle Beleram, who can be called in for an aerial attack during especially difficult battles. This ability turns the tide of a fight and adds a cinematic layer to the combat.

The Legacy Edition includes all previously released updates and content. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition appeals to fans of cooperative action RPGs and Tolkien enthusiasts who want to explore a lesser known chapter of Middle earth history.
