Description

This narrative focused first person horror thriller called ASPIS is a creepy sci fi adventure created by the indie team at Dream Wire Games. The eerie plot drops you straight into an alternate version of the late eighties Soviet Union inside a massive secretive cybernetics institute. You step into the shoes of a grieving engineer named Andrey who connects himself to a highly experimental machine hoping to reunite with his lost wife and daughter. Instead of a simple simulation the device malfunctions and rips open terrifying portals into unknown dimensions populated by hostile entities. Right here on this catalog page you can quickly check the official system requirements to see if your computer can load the dark halls smoothly and browse the actual screenshots and gameplay videos to experience the chilling atmosphere before you enter the machine.

The core gameplay balances slow tense exploration with tricky spatial puzzles where you must operate a special handheld device called PEP 01 to harvest and transfer a mysterious resource known as Energy X. This handy tool lets you power up dead machinery and open glowing astral windows between multiple layers of reality to pull out hidden objects that are completely unreachable in your normal state. You have to scavenge for rare resources to defend your life using manual melee combat or a Makarov pistol while constantly outsmarting an invincible stalker known as the Guardian who tracks you relentlessly through the halls. The progression system requires you to check old OGAS terminals listen to voice recordings and make crucial story decisions that lead to exactly two unique endings. Right in this hub you can always find out the latest version of the game and read the actual patch note to see what specific lighting fixes the developer completed or what sound optimization features they implemented in the recent launch update.

ASPIS: Alternate USSR Horror Game Launches on Steam

Build 26158332

Today, October 23, the full version of ASPIS has been released. I spent nearly six years developing the game on my own, and now players can finally experience the entire story from beginning to end.

ASPIS is a first-person, story-driven horror game set in an alternate version of the USSR. It tells the story of a Soviet scientific experiment designed to predict historical events, which ultimately opened up an entirely new layer of reality.

The Story

USSR, 1987. Six volunteers enter the experimental ASPIS system, where time moves hundreds of times faster than in the outside world. The experiment was supposed to last only a few days, but more than a year passes, and none of the participants regain consciousness.

One of them, an engineer named Andrey, agreed to take part in the trials in the hope of seeing his deceased wife and daughter again. When he awakens inside the system, he discovers distorted research facilities, traces left by the other volunteers, and a world that turns out to be nothing like the simulation the scientists promised.

In ASPIS, exploring abandoned laboratories, underground complexes, and OGAS terminals alternates with puzzles, chases, and encounters with dangerous creatures. Players must manipulate X-energy using the PEP-01 device, activate experimental machinery, and find their way through anomalous spaces. And sometimes, instead of fighting back, the only option is to run and hide.

The Road to Release

Over nearly six years, the project evolved from a small, institute-exploration walking simulator into a full-fledged story-driven horror game. I handled most of the development myself: creating models and environments, building locations based on photographs of real Soviet research institutes, factories, and warehouses, writing the story, and working on the music, sound design, and programming. I even had to develop my own system for staging dialogue and cutscenes, bringing together voice acting, subtitles, timing, and in-game events.

And today, I can finally say that the game is out!

If you're interested in story-driven horror, an alternate USSR, and scientific experiments that push beyond the boundaries of familiar reality, I'd be happy to welcome you to ASPIS.

Thank you to everyone who followed the development, played the demo, shared feedback, and supported the project!
