Description

Chained Beasts is a roguelike about gladiators chained together in a struggle for life and glory. The arena turns into a chaotic ball of pain and iron, where the bodies of warriors are woven by a common destiny. Each battle is a test of endurance, where physics, improvisation and bestial determination create not a slaughterhouse, but survival in spite of.

Chains serve as both a weapon and a curse. They can be thrown, pulled, cut, or used to throw an enemy into spikes. The arena requires cunning: the environment becomes a tool, traps allies. Co-ordinated actions bring insanity and triumph, chaos turns into the art of destruction.

The pain cuts into the flesh, leaving a trace in the consciousness. Injuries don't just weaken, they change the fighting style and perception. Broken vision or a broken arm make you look for new techniques. Strength grows with every scar, but with it insanity. Victory here is not a gift, but a deal with death, imprisoned in the arena.

12 years in the making

"This launch is an extra special one. Chained Beasts was the first ever game we set out to make as a team at Featherweight 12 years ago, before we had the resources, team or skills to actually pull it off. Originally it started as a 48-hour game jam project called Enterchained, inspired by the chained-up scene in the movie Gladiator. We liked the game jam concept so much that we started building an expanded project around it. Back then, we didn’t have the resources, the team or the skills to pull it off, so six months in, we had to put it aside."

"Many years later, when we picked the concept back up, we decided to lean even harder into the chaos and comedy that the chain and injuries system introduces when playing with a group of 4 in co-op. Not to forget the goal of keeping the combat as brutal and punishing as the gladiatorial setting demands, which gives the feeling of a hardcore party game. The end result is what we’ve been referring to as a hardcore party game and all of the elements have come together better than we could have imagined."

And if you're enjoying the carnage, please \leave a Steam review\. It makes a massive difference for a small studio like ours, and is one of the best ways we can bring ever more combatants to the fight.

Valē for now

"Our beta and demo players over the last few years played a huge part in shaping the game as it is today. Watching them play helped us identify where the magic was, and their feedback helped us remove or streamline some brutally unpleasant afflictions and polish up some of our more confusing coop interactions. Finally, to our incredible development and art team: thank you. We're honoured to have had you with us for the journey."

— Dylan Bevis, Co-Director, Featherweight Games

See you in the arena with your weapon of choice in hand!

Our Post-Launch Update Roadmap

People have been asking; “what is the plan once Chained Beasts launches?”

Well, here's a handy roadmap of the next few months to fill you in!

  1. First there's launch on the 15th, after which we'll be sleepily celebrating.

  2. In December we have a 1.1. planned with a brand new arena (and boss), a new weapon and new enemies to match.

  3. After that we'd like to add a PVP mode in Q1 2027 so you can fight against your friends. We’d also like to introduce a handful of new skills and afflictions to keep the campaign fresh.

  4. Once PVP is out in the wild, we’ll be keeping an eye on what our players are most interested in being added to the game. Aside from that, it would make sense for us to look at introducing additional acts, new skills and afflictions, more beasts, beast variants and beast cosmetics so you can get the most out of the campaign’s replay value.

Before we go, now that we’re so close to launch, don’t forget to Wishlist the game to join the fray of the 200k beasts that are waiting to enter the arena! Also, do let your friends know that Chained Beasts will be out in the wild in just 3 days time. That way you’ll have your quartet of combatants ready to go on launch day.

We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but one thing that makes all the difference in the world to indie developers like us is a swift and honest review of your experience with Chained Beasts after launch. Nothing sends a stronger signal to the omnipresent Steam algorithm, which then helps us reach more folks that might like to satisfy their blood lust in the arena alongside you.

With that, we’re going to get our heads down so we’re ready to hit the big green button this Thursday!

See you on the other side.
