Description

This retro management simulation called Midnight Launch A Gameshop Sim is a nostalgic store manager game developed and published by Broadside Studios. The setup transports you straight back to the early 2000s retail scene where you get to run a physical video game shop from a first person view. The story focuses on the stressful but funny daily grind of stocking classic consoles setting up giant cardboard displays and trying to survive crowded midnight release events while keeping your customers happy. Right here on this catalog page you can easily check the system requirements to make sure your computer runs the store environment smoothly and look through the actual screenshots and gameplay videos to see the retro shop vibes before you open your doors for business.

The gameplay loops give you full control over the store economy where you can manage the shop alone or team up with your friends with up to 4 players working together in the same room. You have to log onto your business computer to order boxes of classic games and accessories and set the ideal price tags on your shelves to maximize your profits. The progression allows you to unlock new flooring styles wallpaper designs and posters while dealing with chaotic retail situations like taking phone orders or handling people who want a refund without a receipt. Right in this hub you can always check out the latest version of the app and read the actual patch note to see what specific shelf placement issues the developers improved or what multiplayer connectivity bugs they fixed in the recent update.

Small Patch v0.5.59

v0.5.59 Build 26145705

It's our first patch of Early Access! Just a few small bugfixes and tweaks to smooth out a couple of day 1 issues we've been seeing, especially in Multiplayer:

Version 0.5.59

Multiplayer
  • Reduced the amount of additional customers per connected player.

  • In multiplayer, each player in the lobby will cause more customers to enter the store, to help ensure everyone has something to do. However, we've seen some multiplayer lobbies, especially those with a full 4-player group, getting overwhelmed with the number of customers coming into the store, which has also been causing a few other issues. We're looking into those issues as well, but for now, dialing back the number of customers should help make things smoother.

Phone
  • You will no longer receive phone calls until you've purchased the Service Desk from the Ideas! store and placed it in your Game Shop.

  • Reduced how often the phone rings.

  • The phone has been another large factor contributing to things feeling overwhelming in the first few days of gameplay, so we're tying it to installing the Service Desk (which creates a second queue for reserved games, and is available right away). We're also dialing back how often you actually receive phone calls to give you a little more breathing room.

UI
  • Various minor UI tweaks

Known Issues

There are a few other notable issues that we're aware of (and working on) but don't have fixes for yet in this build. Note that you can always find our current top known issues on the main menu screen.

  • Occasionally NPCs will try to buy a game for $0

  • Saving a game without customizing your store sign will change your store to all black when loading the save

  • Only the host can change the store name in multiplayer

  • Music played via the stereo in the store can only be heard by the host

  • Whiteboard markers teleport to the lost and found if you drop them in multiplayer

  • If you re-join a session, anything that has been dyed will revert to its base color

Early Access is Live!

Build 26137629

It's finally time: Midnight Launch has released into early access!

We started this project over a year ago as a simple game jam, just to see if we could. Now, after tons of hard work, we've officially released on Steam!

This is early access. On top of that, we're a very small team of indie developers learning how to make games. We haven't done this before. So... there's gonna be some bugs. But we're working on them! Expect regular updates as we fix things, add new features, and work towards our full 1.0 release.

To everyone checking out Midnight Launch: thank you so much. This is a big day for the Broadside team, and finally getting to see the game in your hands means the world to us. We hope you enjoy Midnight Launch, and stay tuned for more updates as we continue development!
