Description

Starlathe is a massive and immersive 2D top-down space simulator from Astraeon Interactive, featuring a fully-living and self contained galaxy. There is no plot as such, because you write your own story in a huge open world consisting of 150 unique sectors. In this universe, there are six powerful factions at the same time that extract resources, transport goods, trade, build space bases and wage fierce wars among themselves, and all this happens in real time, regardless of whether you are nearby or not. You start your journey on a tiny weak ship and you can choose for yourself whether to become a peaceful miner, an honest trucker, a rich industrialist, an official defender of the law, or a ruthless pirate who robs other people's convoys and makes dangerous enemies among the leaders of gangs.

The main feature of the gameplay is the ability to create and fully manage your own huge space fleet, assigning ships clear roles from automatic miners to heavy transports and combat escort to the flagship dreadnought at the head of your army. Battle mechanics are based on real time and fair physics where you control turrets, shields, missiles and lasers and every miss or hit is calculated without any random dice. A feature of the game is a realistic economy with a full production chain of 50 types of goods, where station prices instantly respond to real supply and demand, and the space bases themselves are evacuated if necessary, completely destroyed after battles, and then rebuilt by factions anew. For character development, there is a huge skill tree of nine career paths with ten unique skills in each, which, together with the ability to build your own modular stations in wild unexplored sectors, gives absolute freedom and makes each new attempt to conquer space unique.

Patch Notes

Official changelists for the builds of this game

Patch 0.1.6: The Codex, Commanders, Rarity Tiers and Claiming Sectors

Build 25735933
Thank you for every report, screenshot and suggestion !

NEW

  • The Codex (press K). A full in-game guide with 106 pages covering controls, combat, ships, gear, mining, trading, stations, fleets, factions and skills, plus a spoiler-free story intro. It's available in all 16 languages. Right-click almost anything and choose "Codex" to jump to its page. The game pauses while you read.
  • Rarity inside every MK. Every weapon and module comes in Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic or Legendary, with each step 15% stronger. Rarity is rolled on loot, missions, crafting and station production. Upgrade Kits let you raise a piece up to Epic.
  • Commanders. With Fleet Command, promote a captained ship to lead its own wing outside your fleet slots. Autonomous Commanders buy ships with your credits (up to a limit you set) and conquer enemy sectors for you; Manual Commanders take the ships you give them. You get 1 Commander, plus 1 more for every 8 sectors you control.
  • Hold the Line. Order your ships to guard a spot on the map.
  • Claim wild sectors. The first building to finish in a wild sector claims it. Anyone else who builds there pays rent, and in your sectors they must ask you first. Empty sectors return to the wild.
  • Salvage Wreck. Break up a destroyed station for 20% of its materials. The wreck is gone for good, and its owner can't rebuild it.
  • Combat Speed and Travel Speed settings. The game slows down when enemies are near (50% by default) and can run from 50% to 300% while you travel.
  • Loss Alerts. An alarm and a clickable notice when you lose a ship or a station, plus an early "under attack" warning. Every kind has its own on/off switch and volume.
  • Boost. Every ship you get has a Boost Injector. Hold Shift.
  • Transfer tab. Your hold side by side with your station, your stash or another of your ships.
  • Construction materials panel. Near a build site it lists what's still needed and where to buy it. Click a row to fly there.
  • Rename your ships, add notes to sectors, jettison cargo, dismantle hulls, queue map stops, and set trade limits for your Trade for Profit ships.
  • Secondary key bindings for every action. The arrow keys move your ship by default.
  • Chinese, Japanese and Korean typing works in every text box.

CHANGED

  • Smarter combat. Ships fight at their own best range instead of charging into your face.
  • No more one-second deaths. You can lose at most 35% of your hull per second (50% on Hard), beams ramp up, and you get clear hit-direction and low-hull warnings.
  • Mining pays. Every rock drops ore, sized to the rock and about twice as much as before. Rich ore comes up more often, and on Easy mining lasers cut faster.
  • Cargo Drones carry 50.
  • Every station buys your ore, and delivering materials to a faction's construction site now pays credits.
  • Small stations and small buildings no longer need Colossus Frames or other top-tier parts. Colossus Frames and Nexus Control Units stay on sale for you.
  • The Commander skills now take your fleet to 20 ships.
  • Each ship enhancement level adds module slots and cargo, plus a weapon slot every 3 levels.
  • Spending Enhance Points gives a bonus XP pool, and Hard's cargo penalty ends at level 10.
  • Your starting station is safe from attacks for your first 4 hours of play.
  • Salvage from high-level wrecks pays out at your level instead of level 1.
  • Gear shows its ship class as a number and warns you before you buy something that won't fit. Weapons can now drop from destroyed ships.
  • The message log has Personal and Global channels. Big fleets no longer camp on jump gates. Sharper text in the Codex, Journal and lists.

FIXED

  • A crash could delete a Permadeath save. Saves are now only removed after a real death.
  • Contracts took your own ships and drones, and ferry contracts gave away a free ship.
  • Small asteroids one-shot large ships. Bounty crews went passive.
  • Factions sent combat ships to "build" sites that stayed at 0% forever.
  • Your fleet parked on or unloaded into a destroyed station's construction frame.
  • Destroyed stations blocked building across the whole sector.
  • Your stash was silently lost when a station holding it died. It now floats out in crates only you can collect.
  • Shipyards never built Cargo Drones. Trader fleets lost money.
  • Plus the Six Banners task tracker, mission reward icons, the empty Cargo Hold tab, freezes with huge stacks, map scrolling and many more.

The Codex (K) explains everything new in detail.

Patch 0.1.5: Stations That Trade, Shipyards That Listen and the Big Crash Fixed

Build 25718086
Thank you for every feedback and support!

if your request isn't included i got you for the next updates don't worry all of your messages saved!

The crash most of you hit

  • Fixed the crash in long sessions and big fleet fights. It was nearly every crash report we received on 0.1.4.
  • Fixed a crash when pressing F to hand-build an extractor, producer or factory.
  • Fixed a crash when changing VSync or Anti-Aliasing on some graphics cards.

New

  • Faction traders come to your stations. Mark a good For Sale and a real Trader orders it, flies in, docks, pays you and hauls it home. You choose how many units to keep; the rest is sold.
  • Buy Offers. Right-click the RESOURCES or EQUIPMENT header at your own station, pick any item in the game and name your price. An attraction bar shows how tempting your offer is. Faction traders deliver it.
  • Sell ships to their own faction. Right-click a ship at your station: Add for Sale or Add to Station Stash. The faction that flies that design buys it when it needs one, and the ship flies off to serve.
  • Your shipyard builds every hull you have a blueprint for, only when you order it. Bigger station tiers build bigger hulls, up to Dreadnoughts at a Fortress or Nexus.
  • Cargo Drone slots in a station's Assignments: 2 at an Outpost, 2 more per tier.
  • Two new fleet orders: Build Station Here, and Supply Construction Site.
  • Loot filter with the new Cargo Sorter module, one filter per ship.
  • Your own buildings work properly: free store and take, a Module Kit list, and a Drones panel to buy harvest drones and cargo shuttles.
  • Extractors can go on any free natural field. Free fields are marked on the map and in Build Mode.
  • Show Buildable Area in Build Mode.
  • New pages: Construction, Storage and Losses (where each ship died, who destroyed it, and where the captain's pod is).
  • Take All and Sell All Cargo buttons; weapons and modules stack in your storage.
  • New settings: Day Length, Autosave when leaving a station, Ship Panel Opacity, Compact Ship Panel.
  • Gunner officers can be told to Hold Fire.
  • Donate materials to another faction's construction site for standing.
  • Building plans can appear as contract rewards. Dreadnought yards sell MK IX and MK X gear.

Changed

  • Wider turret arcs on every ship. Rear mounts turn a full circle, so big ships can fire most of their guns forward.
  • Point Defense shoots down rockets on its own, on every ship.
  • Turret ships have enough quarters for a gunner on every turret.
  • A ship's price is its hull plus what is fitted and carried. Selling never pays more than buying.
  • Trade experience comes from profit only.
  • Battleships and Carriers need 75 standing to buy, Dreadnoughts 90. Standing is slower to raise once it is high.
  • Your stations produce only what you hold blueprints for.
  • Station-job ships no longer use a fleet slot.
  • Unpaid officers put your balance into debt instead of quitting.
  • A livelier galaxy: more wars, sieges that finish, sectors that change hands.
  • Auto Course and fleet map orders use only sectors you have visited.
  • You always undock first at your own stations.

Fixed

  • The endless buy-and-sell money loop with large ships.
  • Corsairs and other factions staying hostile at good standing; contract crews costing you standing.
  • Auto Course ramming asteroids after a jump.
  • Docking during a warp or jump.
  • Derelicts piling up and leaving the sector.
  • A removed base still blocking its spot.
  • The storage limit on your own station.
  • Cargo drones stashing everything after a load.
  • Fleet miners splitting ore between stash and stock.
  • Insufficient Credits showing when the hold was simply full.
  • Menus and windows drawn under the search bar and hints.
  • Fog of war not clearing in Build Mode.
  • Charges that did not say where they came from.
