Waking Dreams

Waking Dreams introduces Steve, a man suffering from insomnia following the sudden death of his wife. His days and nights blur together, weakening his grip on reality. He begins to notice distorted visions and shadowy figures materializing in his surroundings. This traps him in a perpetual waking nightmare - a state where the line between consciousness and sleep is blurred, forcing him to navigate this new existence.

The gameplay in Waking Dreams requires the player to interact with multiple systems simultaneously. Exploration of threatening environments is a key activity, leading to puzzles that impede progress and require solutions. Resource management creates a constant tension, forcing Steve to make choices about the use of limited supplies. Combat is a central element, pitting Steve against the supernatural beings that hunt him as he pieces together the truth about his fractured mind.

The journey forces Steve to confront the darkest corners of his history, uncovering repressed memories. This single-player game uses blood and violent confrontations to illustrate the physical nature of the threats that arise in his psyche. As he explores the past, the distinction between the dream world and the material reality becomes increasingly blurred. Survival depends on inventory control and direct combat with the ghosts that appear as he reconstructs the chain of events that led to his current state.
