Gold and Graves is an indie strategy game that turns traditional dungeon crawlers on their head by allowing players to bribe enemies instead of simply fighting them. You weaken enemies in battle until their morale breaks, then turn them into loyal mercenaries by offering gold. The core gameplay revolves around tactical positioning and managing a growing army of recruited fighters across strategic battlefields.

The game features a unique card-based progression system where you combine cards, relics, and mercenaries to create powerful synergies that improve your expeditions. Resource management is crucial as you balance spending gold on bribes with earning interest to strengthen your deck and team for future expeditions. Unlike typical boss-focused dungeon crawlers, your goal is to escape the dungeon with your collected resources and power intact.

Time pressure adds tension thanks to a escalating danger system: the longer you stay in the dungeon, the more powerful the monsters become. This forces strategic risk-reward decisions about when to push deeper for better loot and when to retreat to preserve your gains. Anything lost in a failed run cannot be recovered, so timing your escape is critical. A persistent progression system allows you to carry over mercenaries, maps, and relics between dungeon runs, creating increasingly powerful combinations for future expeditions.
