Description
Security 51 is an atmospheric horror simulator where you play as a security guard manning the checkpoint of the infamous underground bunker Area 51. Developed by Alawar, the game draws inspiration from Papers, Please and the SCP Foundation universe, creating a tense document-checking experience with a paranormal twist. Your task is to verify credentials, check access levels, and monitor everyone passing through the elevator shaft, which descends kilometers into restricted laboratories and anomaly containment zones.
The core gameplay revolves around checking documents, security passes, and verbal orders, while identifying discrepancies such as mismatched names, suspicious behavior, slurred speech, or seemingly flawless documents. As you progress through your shifts, you'll unlock advanced screening tools, including fingerprint scanners and blood testing equipment, to determine whether a person is a legitimate employee, an enemy spy, or something entirely inhuman. The game features a consequence system, where your decisions whether detaining the wrong person or letting a threat pass impact future shifts both immediately and with a delay.
Paranormal incidents heighten the tension by exceeding standard security protocols, such as when cameras show an elevator empty despite passengers inside, or when employees return from the lower levels after leaving hours earlier. You'll have to balance strict adherence to protocol with your intuition regarding supernatural threats, deciding not only who enters the facility but also what entities you might release into the outside world. The game's atmosphere gradually builds through routine procedures, gradually revealing that something very sinister is afoot within Area 51.
