Smoother exploration

• Improved performance while exploring the world, collecting resources and spending time around wildlife.
• Reduced sources of stuttering when opening crafting menus, following pinned recipes and using the map.
• Improved performance on the lowest graphics setting.

More comfortable controls

• Improved controller navigation in Settings. Moving from Display to Graphics should no longer skip straight to Language.
• Made navigation between crafting recipes, inventory actions and storage containers more predictable.
• Added a separate option to invert the controller's vertical camera movement.
• Updated the main-menu background to address the colored or static image reported on Steam Deck.

Crafting and everyday improvements

• Fixed large crafting batches losing items beyond the first stack. Crafting more than 20 ropes now gives you the full amount when you have enough inventory space.
• Made the tool repair menu easier to read, with a clearer preview and more consistent buttons.
• Added an option to turn off eating and drinking sounds.
• Clarified how to use the Bird Feeder and collect feathers the following day.
• Added clearer directions to the Riverlands letter: look east for copper!

Clearer help when loading a save

• If a saved game cannot be loaded, the game now explains what happened and offers a next step.
• For an incompatible save, you can choose to start fresh after confirmation. A backup of your previous save is kept, and your settings, custom controls and photos are preserved.

A little menu polish

• Removed the Wishlist button from the full game's main menu.
• Translated more of the graphics settings and their options.
• Refreshed both credits screens with a clearer layout and consistent text sizes.

Under Canopies is finally available in Steam Early Access! 🌳

I honestly don't know how to describe how I'm feeling right now. I'm excited, nervous and very happy that this day has finally arrived.

I've been working on this game for almost four years and now you can finally play it. Thank you so much to everyone who has followed the project and supported me along the way.

🌳 Welcome to the forest!

If you're new here, let me tell you a little about Under Canopies.

It's a cozy first-person survival crafting game where you can build your own life in a peaceful forest.

Build your cabin piece by piece. Grow your own food. Cook meals. Explore different areas and discover hidden places. Photograph wildlife and slowly earn the trust of the animals living around you.

There are survival elements like hunger, thirst, energy and temperature, but Under Canopies is NOT a hardcore survival game.

There is no combat.

No hunting.

No killing animals.

You cannot die.

I wanted to create a game where you can enjoy living in nature without constantly worrying about danger. You still have things to manage and goals to work towards, but you can take your time.

Of course, the work doesn't stop here.

Under Canopies is in Early Access, which means there are still things I want to add, improve and fix before reaching version 1.0.

I've prepared a roadmap to show you what I'm planning for the next updates.

Here's a little look at what's coming:

• Photography Lab, Companion & Canoe: More ways to enjoy photography, a new companion and a canoe to explore the forest.

• Food Preservation & Culinary Content: More things to do with the food you grow and collect.

• Underground Biome & Narrative Finale: A new area to explore and the conclusion of the forest's story.

• Version 1.0: The full release of Under Canopies!

These are my current plans for Early Access. Things might change depending on development and your feedback, but I wanted to share what I'm working towards.

There may still be bugs, unfinished features or things that don't work quite as expected. I'll continue working on the game, releasing updates and improving it as much as I can.

💬 A little about me

My name is Roberto and I'm a solo developer from Mexico. You might also know me as Novemtails.

I've been learning how to make games for about 12 years now. I've worked on and released games with other companies before, but Under Canopies is different.

This is the first commercial game I've developed and released on my own.

What started as a small personal project almost four years ago has become something much bigger than I ever imagined.

I've spent so many hours programming, designing, building the world, fixing bugs and learning things I never expected to learn. All while sharing my workspace with my nine cats. Yes, nine. 😅

Making my own game has been a dream since I first started learning game development. And today that dream has finally become real.

I'm very happy, but also quite nervous to finally share it with everyone.
