Utawarerumono: ZAN successfully transitions the beloved visual novel and Adventure franchise into a dynamic Action focused experience, placing players directly into large scale battles rather than simply chronicling them. This shift focuses heavily on the combat system and the command structures inherent in massive fantasy warfare. The gameplay is a fast paced, hack and slash affair, often referred to as a Musou style game, where players confront armies of hundreds of enemies simultaneously.

About This Game

Beyond the visceral combat, the game introduces a layer of squad management within the battlefield. Before each major encounter, players select a team of four characters. Although you control only one at a time, you can swap instantly between them, allowing for strategic chaining of abilities to maximize damage against bosses or to maintain momentum against overwhelming numbers. This system adds a depth often missing in pure Musou titles.

The Progression System is character focused. Defeating enemies and completing missions earns experience and resources used to unlock new skills and customize character loadouts with different equipable items. This system rewards players for experimenting with the entire roster, ensuring that no character feels obsolete in the later stages of the campaign.
