Crown of Chaos places the player in the shadowy passages and streets of an old urban environment. Hidden dangers often arise when entities emerge from the environment that pose a direct physical threat. The player only has 2 katanas to fight, which requires close combat against these aggressive creatures. Long-term survival depends on the ability to effectively neutralize successive attacks using these limited resources. The atmosphere conveys a constant sense of danger.

The gameplay of Crown of Chaos involves lengthy fights with numerous opponents encountered throughout the urban landscape. Gamers must use their dual weapons and careful observation to anticipate hostile actions and identify opportunities for attack. Defeating enemies gives experience, which can contribute to improving abilities for future encounters. At the same time, the nature of the confrontation escalates; enemies become more formidable and their attacks are relentless, seriously testing the protagonist’s endurance. This urban location offers no safety, making mistakes costly.
