On October 7 at 9:00 p.m., an elderly woman named Marianne Lambert called the Kansas Police Department, who was behaving out of concern for her younger friend Elinor Robertson. According to Mrs. Lambert, Eleanor did not pick up the phone for 13 days, and her letters remained unanswered. Detective Zeke Reynolds is called to investigate what he assumes will be another case he will quickly forget, but what he finds will be forever woven into the fabric of his existence.
