Loop Hero turned a simple auto battler loop into an obsession. Unpacking told a life story through nothing more than placing objects in rooms. The Forgotten City turned a Skyrim mod into one of the most original narrative games of the year. And amid ongoing hardware shortages and delayed releases, gaming proved that creativity doesn't need a new console generation to thrive.
