Both of these tribes were famous for their skillful warriors and often feuded. The massifs had good relations with Carthage — this is one of the main reasons why the masses tried to enlist the support of Rome at the very first opportunity. At the cost of many efforts, both tribes joined the Numidian kingdom under the leadership of the Massilian king Massinissa. He ruled for 54 years, turning Numidia into a prosperous North African power.
