Foreign Sun is an action-packed 2D adventure that forces you to wander the labyrinthine streets of a sinking city in search of clues to the mysteries of the Eternal Lighthouse. The surrounding reality is transformed by your decisions, determining the future fates of local residents. Exploring interconnected locations is linked to the interests of various factions pursuing their own goals. A flexible system of social interactions allows you to switch sides in the conflict, using captured equipment to infiltrate the camps of recent enemies for valuable information.

Encounters with enemies require extreme concentration and the ability to quickly adapt to the environment. The protagonist is able to draw supernatural powers from otherworldly entities dwelling beyond the shadows, unlocking the ability to transform their own body. Such metamorphoses significantly simplify movement through the vertical levels of the metropolis, although the use of forbidden skills always comes at a high price. Combat emphasizes fencing and the skillful use of heavy weapons to overwhelm your opponent.
