Interaction with the settlement's small but nuanced inhabitants becomes a central element of the narrative. Each has their own past, strengths, and weaknesses, making them relatable to real people. Showing sincerity can change their attitudes and even influence their future destinies. Nine main professions are available for self-realization, including farming, logging, animal husbandry, and even martial arts. Any effort, whether it's working the land or building relationships, is sure to bear fruit.

Building your own thriving estate involves upgrading your home and decorating it with a variety of furniture. Halcyon Days at Taoyuan also offers opportunities to master fishing, mining, cooking, and tailoring. A special place is given to taming wild creatures, which can become loyal farmhands or simply companions.
