Headquarters Cold War is a dynamic turn-based strategy game set in a hypothetical 1984 conflict between NATO and the USSR. Players command troops in two 10 mission campaigns and navigate a realistic combat system in which unit placement and armor orientation front, side, rear, and top are crucial for survival. The game's environments are highly interactive, featuring destructible buildings and terrain elements that provide cover or create new tactical obstacles when destroyed. This installment in the series introduces verticality in the form of elevated terrain and adds air units, including attack and transport helicopters capable of carrying infantry. Your army consists of 58 detailed unit models, each equipped with individual crew members, the loss of which directly impacts combat performance, for example, by reducing mobility or firepower.

Between missions, you can customize your forces by leveling up soldiers, assigning heroes, and exploring extensive officer skill trees, offering abilities like camouflage and modular armor. Powerful HQ skills allow you to call in game-changing reinforcements, from cargo drops and MLRS strikes to tactical nuclear weapons. In addition to the story campaign, the game offers six battle maps and a powerful map editor for creating your own scenarios. Multiplayer supports up to four players in versus or 2v2 cooperative modes, using both real-time and asynchronous play. The experience is enhanced by the Cold War-era atmosphere, enhanced by 12 original music tracks and a realistic soundtrack.
