Dungeon Settlers is a grim fusion of city-building simulator and tactical exploration, where the colony's prosperity is inextricably linked to the effectiveness of clearing cursed labyrinths. A setting steeped in magical erosion compels attention to every detail of settlement development. Designing residential blocks, dining halls, and forges with anvils lays the foundation for equipping expeditions. The survival economy relies on resource management, from cultivating fields to producing field rations. Research unlocks advanced technologies, allowing you to counter the growing threats in the depths of procedurally generated chambers.

Careful selection of four companions involves exploring six basic talents and dozens of secondary stats that determine the potential of individuals from various races. The character development system allows you to combine skills with bows, swords, or fire magic to achieve synergy within your party. Skirmishes take place in real time with a tactical pause function, necessary for assessing enemy patterns and activating status effects like bleeding or stunning. The cost of failure in such encounters is extremely high due to the concept of permadeath, which permanently erases experienced heroes from the party.
