During gameplay, we control both Gunvolt and Kirin, between which you can freely switch. During successive missions, the main characters rush to the right, jump on platforms, avoid numerous traps and obstacles on the ground, and most importantly, fight hordes of enemies. While Gunvolt throws lightning at enemies, Kirin destroys opponents with his katana.

In addition, the heroes have special abilities, the skillful use of which can change the fate of many skirmishes. In addition, Gunvolt can use the so-called Image Pulses, which allow him to call on the battlefield allies and enemies encountered during his previous adventures. The graphic design of Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 is designed in a colorful pixel art style. The game takes place to the accompaniment of a dynamic soundtrack. After earning a certain number of so-called «kudos», that is, points awarded for the style of play, the performance of the virtual pop idol Lumen, is activated, whose songs replace the standard music that sounds on each level.
