PATAPON 1 Plus 2 REPLAY puts the player in charge of creatures called Patapons. As their deity, you issue orders by tapping out patterns on 4 mystical drums, a mechanic that is at the heart of the entire game. Each beat – Pata, Pon, Don and Chaka – forms rhythmic sequences for movement, attack and defense commands. The goal is to lead the tribe on an expedition to the Land's End location, overcoming obstacles. This approach requires a constant sense of rhythm to manage forces during battles.

Army formation is a key aspect of PATAPON 1 Plus 2 REPLAY, as strategy depends on the composition of the squad. The tribe consists of different classes, each of which performs a specific function in PvE clashes. Hatapon is in the center, holding the banner, and the Tatepon unit uses a shield for defense. The Yumipon class is responsible for ranged attacks, firing arrows at enemies from the rear. The combination of these fighters determines the tactical approach and effectiveness in battles with different opponents.

You can create new Patapons and improve existing ones using items collected during the gameplay. Resources for creating and strengthening fighters are obtained in levels and special mini-games. The game contains 400 different types of weapons and equipment that can be found and used. These pieces of equipment allow you to directly upgrade warriors, giving you the opportunity to assemble an army ready to meet certain types of enemies and obstacles.
