In Alaris, freedom of action is key, and decisions directly impact the story and personal connections. Choices shape a personality system based on four traits: courage, kindness, wisdom, and charisma. The environment and its inhabitants dynamically respond to the protagonist's evolving characteristics, opening up a variety of dialogue options. During free time, players can choose from four locations for dates with potential romantic partners, actively building relationships on their own terms.

The protagonist possesses a special ability, Energy Vision, which allows him to see the unique auras of other characters. This mechanic complements the text-based gameplay, which advances the branching plot toward one of several endings. The Reminiscence feature allows the player to relive past dates and romantic moments. Progressing through the story requires balancing the investigation of deep mysteries with the development of new relationships, and the player's actions determine the narrative's final outcome.
