Heartspell Horizon Academy immerses you in a fantasy world as a newly arrived student at Horizon Academy, a unique educational center hidden in the spirit realm. Your time here will be dedicated to both studying the magical arts and building social connections with other students. The narrative revolves around eleven characters representing various races, including fairies, sirens, and werewolves. Social mechanics allow you to form friendships and romantic bonds, while pursuing romances with multiple characters simultaneously has no negative consequences. A fully voiced script containing over 280,000 words ensures maximum immersion.

The core of the gameplay is match-3 challenges, where successful combinations of elemental tiles become the source of energy for casting spells. Successfully completing puzzles will reward you with experience points, which can be invested in improving your abilities. As you progress through Heartspell: Horizon Academy, you'll unlock new support spells to overcome challenges, as well as special magic styles that provide advantages when forming chains of 4 or 5 tiles. Each character has their own mechanics, which slightly adjust their narrative path.

The protagonist is destined to unravel the mysteries looming over the academy's future. The storyline is woven from eleven independent arcs, each containing ten chapters and additional content; over time, these narrative threads coalesce into one grand epic. At the start, you'll be asked to choose pronouns for your avatar, but this choice will not affect the rest of the story. For players who prefer to focus solely on the narrative, there's an option to disable puzzles entirely.
