As We Descend is a strategy roguelike deck builder that places players in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is struggling to survive in the last remaining city. Developed by Box Dragon, the game combines tactical card combat with resource management and political maneuvering. Players recruit unique units using collected technologies. Each unit archetype has its own set of cards that can be customized, upgraded, and modified to suit specific combat scenarios. The tactical combat system includes dynamic positioning mechanics, allowing you to move troops between guard and support zones to evade attacks and create defensive formations against massive enemies.

In between battles, you manage humanity’s last fortress city, navigating its feudal politics with dice-based social encounters to gain allies and resources. Your faction affiliation with the three Great Houses influences these interactions as you attempt to uncover the city’s hidden secrets and prepare for future expeditions. The core gameplay involves descending through three different biomes to a mysterious core, gathering resources and facing increasingly difficult encounters. Each failed attempt provides new knowledge and tools for subsequent attempts, creating a constant progression system that rewards experimentation and learning from failure.
