Astro Burn is a fast-paced side-scroller that blends classic cute-em-up concepts with internet culture aesthetics and breakneck combat. The storyline centers on a courageous cat pilot and her mechanical assistant, AL, who return to Earth after a long expedition. Instead of their familiar home, they discover their home planet overrun by surreal, giant creatures who have transformed the world into a zone of total chaos. The protagonist must fight her way through 10 themed levels, spanning from underwater abysses to futuristic megacities. The detailed pixel art visuals are complemented by vibrant lighting effects and a driving synthwave soundtrack.

Gameplay revolves around skillful dodging of projectiles and gradually building up firepower. Combining different attack types allows for unique configurations that can instantly clear an area of ​​enemies. A special catnip mechanic allows for the devastating Meodoooken attack when the situation on-screen becomes critical. Various gameplay modes are available, including classic arcade and local co-op for two players. The high density of enemy fire and the availability of an extreme difficulty level make the game a serious challenge even for seasoned fans of the genre.
