Field of Glory 2 Medieval Rise of the Swiss — from the late 1300s, some Swiss began to wear long tops, initially as a minority weapon, and the bulk of their soldiers still wore halberds. In 1422, a small Swiss army was defeated at Arbedo by a Milanese army consisting of a large number of armored men who hurried after their initial cavalry attack failed. It has been observed that spearmen cope better with infantry than halberds because of the greater reach of their weapons. Since then, the share of spearmen in the Swiss army has been steadily increasing, so that by the end of the fifteenth century they had become the dominant weapon.

The halberd was left with only a handful of experienced soldiers to defend the flags and break the enemy system if the advance of the peaks was stopped. The new Swiss system proved a resounding success on the battlefield: victory in the Burgundian Wars, the defeat of the Holy Roman Empire in the Swabian War, and as mercenaries, they were a key component of the armies of French King Charles VIII in Italy. Peaks were soon adopted in many Western European countries, especially in Germany by the famous Landsknechts.

NOTE. This release is standalone and includes the following DLC:
  • Field of Glory II Medieval Reconquista
