The remaster features updated controls, a refined interface, and technical improvements, while preserving the spirit of the original sandbox. The game takes place in the 17th-century Caribbean. Players can assume the role of Peter Blood or create their own captain and explore the open world: wage naval battles, trade, plunder, hunt for treasure, and conquer cities. On the global map, players can plan strategies, choose trade routes, and wage wars between colonial powers.

Caribbean Legend Age of Pirates stands out for its complete freedom of action. There are no time limits on missions or mandatory story objectives. Players can enter into privateering agreements, build a fleet, recruit companions, and complete over 20 major side quests, along with numerous procedurally generated missions. The world is filled with historical characters and events, the ruins of Native American settlements, urban dungeons, and buried treasure.
Development was handled by ReCon Team, known for their mods for the «Corsairs» series, while BlackMark Studio provided the Caribbean Legend engine, technical support, and Steam integration. Unlike Caribbean Legend, which emphasizes storytelling, Age of Pirates is entirely focused on free-roaming gameplay and a sandbox environment, offering players limitless possibilities for pirate adventures.
