Kriophobia gameplay is built on solving intuitive yet challenging puzzles and surviving in the face of severe resource scarcity. Enemy encounters are extremely tense, and flight is often the best option rather than open confrontation. The deadly cold poses a distinct threat, forcing the player to constantly monitor the heroine's condition and seek out any sources of warmth. Every decision carries weight, and a misstep can lead to swift death.

The title's hallmark is its unique visual language, where deliberately rough, comic-book-inspired linework is combined with painterly environmental textures. This artistic approach creates a dark and oppressive atmosphere reminiscent of graphic novels from the 1980s and 1990s. The immersion into a world of icy loneliness and horror is heightened by a soundtrack with distinct Slavic motifs.
