About The Game

Dystopika is a dynamic action game in which we have to fight for our lives in a world destroyed by the apocalypse. There are only two powerful forces left on earth who are waging war among themselves. You have to choose one of the sides and, playing the role of a brave conqueror, become part of the crazy battles. There are more than enough challenges in the game, and it has also prepared quite a few dark secrets for us, which will not be so easy to reveal. There is both a real world and a three-dimensional cyberspace system between which you will move using portals. The main character can be assigned to one of three classes, each of which is unique in its own way and has a number of advantages over others.

  1. Dystopika v1.0.5 now available

Hello everyone. There will be some news on 1.1 coming soon but in the meantime, I'm happy to release v1.0.5 which introduces Safe Mode as well as some under-the-hood changes to how saves are handled that will benefit those who play Dystopika across multiple devices.

Yes, I skipped v1.0.4. I attended the Microsoft Windows School of Counting.

    Release Notes - v1.0.5

    What's New
    Safe Mode

Safe Mode will skip loading custom billboard media (and show a broken image in its place). The custom media is still "linked" and will reappear the next time you open outside safe mode, but with Safe Mode you can remove or replace billboards if you exceed your system memory. In short, you can attempt to bring a city back under memory requirements in the event of a crash.

Safe Mode also disables Save on Exit and adds a warning when you are about to save.

Safe Mode also exposes Bulk City Import and Export options in the Pause Menu, which allows you to backup all of your cities and import accordingly. Great for when you want to hop onto the experimental branch without affecting your saves.

To enter Safe Mode, press F8 during the intro message, or use the console command safe-mode.

    Quality of Life
If Custom Media billboard cannot be found, it will display a blue Broken Image billboard instead of a random billboard which was the old behaviour. The path to the media will be retained unless the billboard is manually changed or deleted. This is helpful if you use a Steam Deck and don’t want to break your saves that use Custom Media (which doesn’t move with your city).
Last Opened City is now saved LOCALLY and will not be synced. This prevents unintentionally opening a city on another device (like a Steam Deck) which may not be desired.

    Bug Fixes
Prop placement having unexpected results when placed on buildings near the world border (i.e. strange rotation behaviour)
Fixed a bug that prevented prop unlocks from saving.
Fixed some bugs that would prevent the game from soft locking due to loading corrupted saves.

    A Note on Translations
Some newer features, buttons, and modals are missing edge case translations and will default back to English right now. There is a larger translation project happening behind-the-scenes where I am changing the workflow to make it easier to continuously improve translations as I add features. Stay tuned.

Just a quick update to add City Naming and the Bulgarian language. This patch is also preparing some under-the-hood changes in preparation for mod support.

Bulgarian has been added to the game, store page, and achievements. Courtesy of I. Kodzhanikolov in the Discord.
    Quality of Life
You can now give your city a name in City Settings.
City name (if applied) now appears in the Load City screen.
An .xml is now present for each new city save, in preparation for mod support.
There are now two Steam News slots in the menu so that weekly challenges are visible alongside patch notes and other announcements.
    Bug Fixes
City screenshots in Load Menu no longer appear faded.

    v1.2.3 Now Available

A small but powerful gift to our Community Challenge participants prior to the experimental launch of Mod Support.

    Release Notes
    Quality of Life
Photo Mode: If the new "Lock" toggle is active, Photo Mode will now retain your previous settings the next time it is opened. This allows you to switch back to build mode without losing your photo mode composition. These settings are also saved whenever the city is saved, so you can easily resume your last photo mode session after closing the game.
Photo Mode: The Camera Height slider range has been expanded to -6 / +6 for more dramatic angles.
Photo Mode: Sun Color now applies to both sun and moon objects
Photo Mode: Taking screenshots at a different resolution than the current game resolution will now take an additional 1-2 seconds, depending on your system, to allow the temporal fog to resolve properly and produce a more accurate image

    Bug Fixes
Fixed some Photo mode settings that would not reset correctly
Fixed a camera judder when entering Photo mode.
Fixed a problem where the Sun Color and Intensity sliders would not always apply changes consistently.

    Future Photo Mode enhancements
This is the first of several planned enhancements to Photo Mode including camera movement modes, additional settings, and quality of life improvements. Stay tuned!

  5. v1.5 "Meditations" Now Available

It's been a whole year since Dystopika launched and what an incredible year it has been. We wanted to do something special with v1.5 so we really went to town on this one: new soundtrack. new districts, new props, new weather options, and a whole lot more.

    Release Notes

    New Soundtrack by Sascha Dikiciyan
With credits including The Long Dark, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Quake II, Mass Effect 3, and the soon-to-be-released Metal Eden, Sascha Dikiciyan (Sonic Mayhem) brings his signature cinematic-ambient compositions to Dystopika, a meditative city-sculpting experience for creating stunning cyberpunk cities and future noir vibes.

Meditations from the Future is a sonic journey through ambient cityscapes and imaginary futures. Blending nostalgic synth textures with modern minimalism, Sascha crafts a reflective soundtrack for Dystopika - Influenced by the old-school Berlin electronic sound and modern cinematic soundscapes, it weaves emotion into architecture, shaping the skyline of your imagination.

A digipak CD featuring original artwork by Rob Sheridan (NIN, Pearl Jam) is now available for pre-order.

Also, please check out Rob’s merch store, Glitch Goods.

New Districts: Labber’s Row and C-VILLE

    Labber’s Row
Labber’s Row is the home of cutting-edge research, where advancements in materials science, weaponry, biotechnology, and chemical engineering shape the future behind closed doors. Within its labyrinth of imposing, brutalist structures, the scientific elite—known as "Labbers"—operate under a strict veil of secrecy, their work shielded from prying eyes by both physical and procedural fortifications. The air here is thick with sterilization protocols: UV-sanitizers line the streets, pulsating with an eerie glow, while infrared scan stations stand as silent sentinels, ensuring that contamination is swiftly detected and eradicated.

    C-VILLE
Connectville serves as the black market hub of the dystopian world of Dystopika. It is a vibrant, chaotic tapestry of favela-style alleyways crammed with backstreet shops, ramen stands, and a maze of tangled electrical wires. Known colloquially as "C-VILLE," its interconnectedness mirrors the tightly woven local supply chains that have evolved over decades between the district's myriad of specialty shops. These connections have birthed a dense network of skybridges and makeshift pathways that thread through the heart of the district.
