Only Way is Down allows players to take control of a cat in this 3D platformer gameplay. After accidentally sleeping on construction materials raised into the sky, the animal finds itself high above the ground on a construction site. It is up to the player to descend through this urban construction zone. The path down involves navigating paths and structures located on an unfinished building. The goal is to bring the cat back to the ground.

Progression in Only Way is Down involves using elements of the construction site as a vertical zone to move around. Gamers direct the character to interact with steel beams, scaffolding components, and cranes to ensure descent. Agility mechanics allow for movement across specific areas and jumping between surfaces. Precision is important for landing on narrow platforms and bridging gaps encountered while moving from the upper levels of the structure.

Users can customize the appearance of the character with the available options available in the project. The selection of breed, eye color, and body parameters is available. Additionally, cosmetic items such as hats, glasses, and masks can be unlocked and equipped on the hero. As you move down, you get a view of the surrounding cityscape from the heights of the structure. This platformer offers challenges involving acrobatics in a metropolitan setting.
