Star Fire Eternal Cycle launches a run in which the main character dashes and combos against alien enemies in futuristic 2.5D locations. The gameplay is built on a combination of side-scrolling beat 'em up combat and roguelite progression systems. Each attempt to clear a level features unique enemy placement and procedurally generated branching paths. Player movement and attacks are designed for direct control, requiring dodges and precise timing to defeat cyberpunk enemies in destructible environments.

Resources are collected during gameplay, which carry over between runs as part of the roguelite mechanics. These permanent materials are then spent to unlock permanent upgrades, more powerful weapons, and alternate skins for subsequent sessions. The level design also includes hidden elements such as secret rooms and random events that offer unique mini-challenges or rewards.
